Head coach, Zoran Mikes statement regarding FIBA’s decision

The decision rendered by a FIBA’s Single Judge leaves me with mixed feelings. On one side I am happy and satisfied that it was established that based on the presented evidence (video footage, statements of referees, commissioner and other involved in the game) I have not – as  she called – »slapped the butt« of Ms. Williams. On the other hand I was found in breach of sportsmanlike behaviour due to a brief pat on Ms. Williams’ hip and praising her for her great performance. I am a coach in women’s basketball for 24 years and I would have never thought that such my actions could be considered unsportsmanlike. It was never my intention to undermine ethical principles of the game of basketball. I could have not imagined that my pat of professional admiration can cause any distress to Ms. Williams and for that I am truly sorry. However, I will have to adopt to policies/rules regarding coach’s behaviour and therefore I accept the decision as it is. At this point I am deeply hurt and disturbed by the misinterpretation of this event from Ms. Williams and I expect her apology for the posts on X, which caused a huge distress to me, my family and my club.
